Who Am I Without My Addiction?

American Society of Addiction Medicine

*******Boredom…Loneliness…Emptiness.  Food…alcohol…nicotine…porn–the minute you quit, you start to try figure out who you really are and/or who you used to be before you delved into the dark caverns of your addiction.  You twiddle your thumbs, rock back and forth, jump at every noise and pace your well-worn floors hoping for a “good-enough” alternative.  Is there one?  Maybe there’s more than one.  What if you find the next best thing?  Will it turn into another addiction, or will it be that one thing that fills you so completely you have no need to turn to past habits and will replace them with newer “healthier” ones?  The yawn-inspiring boredom can be filled with exciting new-found activities.  The loneliness can be eliminated with friends and family you may have cut out to nurture your “friendly” addiction.  The empty void can be filled with things that soar your spirits to heights past and unknown such as music, laughter, art, books, nature, cars, photography and like-minded groups.  Yes, it is tough discovering who you are without your addiction(s), but aren’t you worth discovering you happiness and worth?  Yes, you are.  Cheers to you and the you you didn’t know you are.*******

Motivational Quote of the Day – 26 July 2012 – Seeking Motivation

I Must Look Elsewhere

English: motives hierarchy public domain

“There are bound to be rough times in your life and sometimes you may need motivation to get you over your hurdle.  Don’t be afraid to seek out positive outside sources when you feel you have nothing within you to keep you going.” -Mother Shyra

*******Rough times come and go.  It comes with the territory called ‘Life’.  Should you just roll over and play Possum because that hits the “Easy Button”?  You could, but where would that land you?  Jobless, friendless and possibly homeless.  More than likely, your family will be there to help you pick up the pieces, but what happened to wearing the grown-up pants yourself?  When did you decide to pack them up in a box to save for the Winter or donate to your local shelter?  This can only happen when you have nothing left inside of you to propel you forward.  So, what do you do then?  You go searching.  High, low, in and out.  You seek sources of inspiration that have always been available to you, but you were able to overlook because you didn’t need them when the well was filled to the brim.  There are a multitude of spiritual and inspirational self-help books, CD‘s, DVD‘s, tapes (yes, they still exist), magazines and people that can help you push through this monumental hurdle.  Although my number one goal is to motivate others, sometimes I need a little motivating myself.  Sometimes, you just have to humble yourself and admit you need a little help to get by.  There’s nothing wrong with that.  It’s what makes us human.  Barbara Streisand said it best, “People who need people, are the luckiest people in the world.”  For it’s when you find you need others, you realize others need you.”*******

Wednesday’s Wisdom – 6 Jun 2012 – Friedrich Nietzsche – I’m Stronger Now

I’m Stronger Now

"That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger." - Friedrich Nietzsche

*******No matter what you are going through, or how tumultuous it is, there is a reason for it — to make you stronger.  I can attest to this fact because I have endured some circumstances that I never thought I would make it through.  But, guess what?  I did.  And I’m stronger because of those experiences.  Remember to always step outside of the situation and look at it from the outside — closely.  Look for the opportunities to learn, grow and change.  One or all of these lessons will be present in every situation you have and will experience.  Another way to look at your situation is as an experience.  You and the people involved MUST go through this experience.  It is also quite possible you may need to use your experience to help others in the future.  So, whatever your issue, embrace it and accept the lesson being presented to you.*******

Mary Mary – Go Get It

Verse 1
It’s like you’re looking through a telescope you see where you gone be
Growing getting better you’re not the person they see
Can’t be mad at the things you been through cuz they built yo muscle
Now you’re stronger than you ever been they can’t stop yo hustle

Yo Faith ain’t never small that’s what brought you this far
See you got your dreams and you got your prayers and you got Yo God he gone take you there
See everyone has a season and I believe this one’s yours
Cuz you been workin waitin this what you been prayin for

Go get it, Go Get it, Go get it, Go get it, Go get it
Go get yo blessing
Go get it, Go get it, Go get it, Go get it, Go get it, Go get it
It’s yo time, it’s yo time, it’s yo time, it’s yo time

Verse 2
You were made to live a good life and that’s what I believe
So hit the floor say a prayer start working you got to do something

It’s alright to crawl before you walk it’s alright to walk before you run
But if you wanna get what you never got gotta do something that you never done

Repeat Chorus

You been qualified
But this mercy multiplied
You cannot be denied
Cuz You’re finally certified

Motivational Quote Of The Day – 15 Feb 2012 – Love Is Freeing

English: This is a photograph I personally too...

Image via Wikipedia

“Love is the ability and willingness to allow those that you care for to be what they choose for themselves without any insistence that they satisfy you.”

Wayne Dyer
Author and Speaker

*******Loving someone does not mean imposing your desires and beliefs upon another.  If you truly love someone, you should allow them to freely make decisions for their life without interjecting with what you want for them.  What really matters is what they want for themselves, not what you want for them.  Sure you can hope they make wise decisions and seek a respectable path in life, but that’s about it.  If you want your child to be a doctor and they want to become an actor, so be it.  Let them have wings.  Don’t clip them.  Wouldn’t you want someone to do the same for you?*******

Motivational Quote Of The Day – 23 Jan 2012 – Betty White – Can We Be Friends? – Thank You For Being A Friend / Golden Girls Theme Song Performed By Lower than Lowercase

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Friendship takes time and energy if it’s going to work. You can luck into something great, but it doesn’t last if you don’t give it proper appreciation. Friendship can be so comfortable, but nurture it – don’t take it for granted.”

Betty White
Actress and Comedian

*******”People who need people…”  Friendships are truly precious and like any relationship in comparison to a garden, it will surely die if not tended to.  You can definitely luck into one as I have a few times, but even those lucky ones won’t go the distance if you treat them as if they are supposed to take care of themselves.  It is never good to have or be a “fair-weather friend”.  I have put people in the position to only be my friend during the good times because I felt my bad times were too much for anyone else to bear with me.  My friends and family have been very upset with me for alienating them.  I’ve even lost a few friends who couldn’t understand my isolation.  I have learned to cherish and nurture the friendships I have because good ones are very hard to come by.  You can have a million acquaintances, but it gets pretty lonely without a close friend you can confide in, laugh/cry/dream with.  I’m keeping the ones I have tucked close to my heart because I know life would not be the same without them.  To my friends: I thank and love each of you.  I hope you all enjoy this nice, subtle rendition of The Golden Girls theme song.  It’s pretty cool and almost made me pick up my guitar.  Later tonight perhaps?  We’ll see ;) *******
