Song Of The Day – 3 Mar 2012 – Bruno MarsGrammy Awards 2012 – Runaway – YouTube

*******I didn’t see the Grammy Awards this year (although I still plan to), but I can assure you Bruno Mars’ performance was one of the best of the night.  The kid has got “it” I tell ya.  From the second I heard Grenade, I was a fan of his.  In this performance, Bruno sounds great, looks great and performs even greater.  He is a highly influential asset to the music world and I know he will still be wowing us for many years to come.  Kudos dahlin! ;)*******

******* I absolutely love Jessie J’s voice.  This girl can blow and she proves it in this live video by singing in a subway terminal without a mic.  It’s time for me to make a Jessie J radio station on Lastfm and Pandora!*******

Song Of The Day – 17 Feb 2012 – AdeleMake You Feel My Love (Live On Carson Daly) – YouTube

English: Adele

*******Adele swept the Grammy’s this year as I predicted.  She is an amazing talent that has affected the world for eternity.  That’s a bit hard to do, but she’s done it.  ”Make You Feel My Love” is another great song by Adele.  Although you can’t make someone love you, you can make them feel your love.  As long as you do it in a positive and non-scary way, you are authorized to share how much you care.*******

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY Only those…

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Only those who risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”                      -T.S. Eliot 1888-1965, Poet and Critic

MASTERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY- BOB CARLOS CLARKE   *******Robert Carlos Clarke (1950-2006) took great risks in his profession as a photographer.  He went outside the box and expressed his artistry in editorial work, fashion and advertising while becoming most well-known for his erotic photography.  You shouldn’t have to stick to the ‘safe’ options to find your successful path.  Tried-and-true methods had to be tried before they were deemed true.  Besides, it’s not only boring to run with the masses, it’s boring to do only one thing for the rest of your life.  That’s just me though… ;)*******

WORD OF THE DAY

DISCOMFITURE

(noun)
[dis-KUM-fi-choor', dis-KUM-fi-chahr]

1. anxious embarrassment: “Everyone shifted in their seats as the discomfiture in the dining room grew.”

Origin:
Approximately 1325; from Middle English, ‘desconfiture’ (‘discomfit,’ from Old French ‘desconfire’: to defeat, to destroy, from ‘des-’: not + ‘confire’: to make, to accomplish + ‘-ure.’)

In action:
“The Mutter was barely known to the general public when Ms. Worden, who grew up in nearby Media, Pa., and had a B.A. in physical anthropology from Temple University, joined the museum staff as assistant curator in 1975.

It turned out to be the only place she ever worked. When she became director in 1988, she set about expanding the Mutter’s holdings and increasing its attendance, to the discomfiture of some elected fellows, who worried that a more public Mutter would appeal to black-clad goth kids and freak-show revivalists with tattooed faces. (It did, along with families and school groups.)

An engaging and erudite eccentric with a public speaking voice somewhere in the Julia Child zone, Ms. Worden became the Mutter’s jolly avatar, rousing it from a dusty, almost secret jumble of curiosities that drew 5,000 visitors annually to one of Philadelphia’s best-known cultural institutions, attracting 62,000 visitors last year.”

John Strausbaugh. “A Curator’s Tastes Were All Too Human,” The New York Times (October 11, 2005).

JON STEWART ON CROSSFIRE  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFQFB5YpDZE  *******WOW!!!  Talk about the growing discomfiture!  Even I was uncomfortable watching this clip!  This is the show that reportedly brought Crossfire down.  Jon Stewart laid down the law and Tucker Carlson looked like a fool trying belittle Jon Stewart by mocking The Daily Show  and comparing it to Crossfire and the like.  I guess he never expected to get caught in the ‘crossfire’ himself.  So sad.*******

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Little minds are tamed and subdued by misfortune; but great minds rise above them.”         -Washington Irving 1783-1859, Author

SEETHER- RISE ABOVE THIS  *******This is such a great song.  I just watched this video for the first time and found out it is about suicide and was dedicated to Eugene Welgemoed 1981-2007 http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/articles/2007/08/15/news/local/doc46c3a98abc412980550084.txt.  Shaun Morgan, Seether’s lead singer and guitarist, is Eugene’s brother.  In no way do I think those that have committed suicide have little minds.  Life is not easy and sometimes it can be too much to bear when a light cannot be seen at the end of the tunnel.  I’ve been there and I thank God for my family and friends because I’m still here.  This quote addresses the misfortunes of life and how they should be dealt with.  Take the current state of the economy for example.  Left and right, people are just giving up or simply taking financial and job losses as if life has come to an end.  Although life as we’ve known it has come to a standstill, it doesn’t mean it’s over or will never return to it’s former state.  You just have to roll with.  Shop differently.  Name brands aren’t the holy grail and being able to dine out and buy whatever you want does not determine the measure of a man.  Not having enough actually teaches you what is really important to your survival.  These are your needs.  During these hard times; take care of your basic needs and stay calm.  Have a great mind and rise above this.*******

WORD OF THE DAY

ABERRANT

(adjective, noun)
[AB-ahr-ahnt, a-BER-ahnt]

adjective

1. markedly different from an accepted norm; ‘aberrent behavior’: “We would like to observe your children to pinpoint the source of their aberrant hostility.”

noun

2. one whose behavior departs substantially from the norm of a group

additional noun forms: aberrance, aberrancy
adverb form: aberrantly

Origin:
Approximately 1550; from Latin, ‘aberrant-,’ present participle of ‘aberrare’: to go astray, from ‘errare’: to wander, to err.

In action:
“True, these diverse communities identify with the same faith; but because of Islam’s inherent cultural pluralism, each brings with them an Islam that has developed over centuries in response to the environments of their respective homelands. Accordingly, Muslims in the diaspora are charged with reconciling countless varying, even conflicting, manifestations of Islam. For Muslims, this is historically an aberrant situation. The result is that almost every idea, from the most radical to the most conservative, is hotly contested among Muslim communities in places like Australia.”

Waleed Aly. “The making of Muslim Australia,” The Australian Age (October 23, 2005).

FABIO CAPELLO IS ANGRY!!  *******This is hilarious!!!  He beat up the two dudes next to him!  His reaction is a bit excessive, but aberrant for a sports manager?  Hardly.*******

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

“No man is so foolish but he may sometimes give another good counsel, and no man is so wise that he may not easily err if he takes no other counsel than his own.  He that is taught only by himself has a fool for a master.”  -Hunter S. Thompson

SELF TAUGHT HELICOPTER PILOT CRASH  *******I’m still shaking my head at this one.  Really?!  This guy lost his mind as well as his money.  Don’t be a Bob!!!  LOL  Seriously, pride has been the downfall of many.  I didn’t really realize how much my pride was holding me back until I started reading The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill http://www.amazon.com/Success-Sixteen-Napoleon-Complete-Unabridged/dp/9562915921/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223671170&sr=1-1.  This book shows how the richest men gained their wealth by creating a “mastermind”.  In order to achieve success, one must form an alliance with a person of like mind.  This does not mean you have to be in business together, but you must be on the same wavelength when discussing your plans and ideas for your business.  You can’t do it alone.  It doesn’t matter who you are or what talents you’ve been blessed with.  Don’t believe me?  Name one person that has achieved greatness without the help of another.  Remember–you are taught by influence also.*******

WORD OF THE DAY

SUBVERSIVE

(adjective, noun)
[sahb-VUR-siv, sahb-VUR-ziv]

1. in opposition to a civil authority or government: “I don’t think that graffiti still qualifies as a subversive activity.”

noun

2. a radical supporter of political or social revolution

adverb form: subversively
additional noun form: subversiveness

Origin:
Approximately 1650; from Medieval Latin, ‘subversivus’; from Latin, ‘subvers-,’ past participle of ‘subvertere’: to turn from below, from ‘vertere’: to turn.

In action:
“While the communist government encourages internet use for education and business, it also blocks material it deems subversive or pornographic. Online dissidents who post items critical of the government, or those expressing opinions in chat rooms, are regularly arrested and charged under vaguely worded state security laws.”

“Post All the News That’s Healthy,” Associated Press (September 25, 2005).

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE OF THE DAY

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”  -Winston Churchill

PRINCESS DIANA’S CHARITY WORK  *******Princess Diana was an amazing worman.  She spent a good part of her life giving of herself and her fortune.  Just looking at pictures of her undeniably genuine smile and touch while she was helping children warms my heart.  It’s easy to tell she made her life worthwhile by giving.  She will always be greatly loved and missed.*******

WORD OF THE DAY

PARAMOUR

(noun)
[PAR-ah-moor']

1. a lover, especially an illicit lover: “Jaime is constantly buying expensive presents for her paramour.”

Origin:
Approximately 1300; from Middle English, ‘par amour’: passionately, with strong love or desire; from Anglo-French, ‘par’: by + ‘amour’: love, from Latin, ‘amare’: to love.

In action:
“The heroine of The American President, Sydney Ellen Wade, is a beautiful, brilliant environmental activist who abandons her presidential paramour when he does what politicians do to get legislation through: a deal. In The Contender the vice-presidential nominee refuses to refute rumours about her private life. Although this could easily be done, she stays silent because it is better to abandon great power than compromise a principle.”
Stephen Matchett. “Just like men, actually,” The Australian (September 17, 2005).
